Wedding Vow Rings

The unfolding of a wedding event contains different emotional moments both for the wedding couple and their invitees, each one of these moments leaving prints in the memory of those who attend to the wedding. But the only moment that is loaded with deep implications and reflects the best the significance of a wedding is the moment of vows and rings exchanging. In front of the priest and a quiet audience, promises of commitment are exchanged between bride and groom, promises that are sealed within the symbols of wedding rings and with the priest pronouncing both husband and wife.

When we communicate to each other we use a set of codes that are verbal symbols to hold the meaning of our thoughts, ideas, feelings, state of mind, a set of codes which we simply call ‘words’. Their shape is loaded with significance and messages with which we are used since the day we are given birth. Words are the ones to name and give form to everything that surrounds us, everything we feel and think; without words the communication between people would not be possible. There is of course, the language of signs used for mute people, but these signs are also created around the meaning of verbal words.

Words are also the ones that a wedding couple insert while exchanging the wedding vows, and in this case the meaning of every word gets the dimension of eternity, their uttering is filled with an emotional charge that propels the vows into the realms of the couple’s everlasting spiritual bond. A wedding ceremony displays several ways of vows’ exchanging either with wording previously established by the couple’s religion or wording that are chosen by the couple’s personal beliefs. But no matter what is the choice of wording, the vows are exchanged with the gesture of handing each other the wedding vow rings.

This gesture, in its turn, is filled with importance of a meaning, it is supposed to embody every word that is uttered in the vows and the promises they contain. That is the reason why many couples prefer to write their own wording for the vows; they need to express their belief toward the act of marriage, toward what they feel for each other and what they promise to become once their marriage is sealed. In this regard, the personal wording has the depth of bride and groom’s hopes they entrust in the future life that awaits them at the end of the wedding day.

In the course of these promises the wedding vow rings are the ones that finalize the vows exchanging in an attempt to catch the spirituality of the words in the materiality of the wedding rings. These rings will represent the everlasting physical testimony of the commitment, love, respect and sharing that the couple has promised to each other during the biggest event of their life: wedding ceremony.
