Proper Way To Wear Wedding And Engagement Rings

Rings have always been related to women, as they are considered to be, in general terms, jewelery. The rings on a woman’s hand have special meanings and they all tell their own different story. A major significance for every woman but also for every man too, has the wedding ring and it probably tells the most important and beautiful story of a couple’s life. The fact that married people wear rings is well known by all of us but how many of us know how to wear a ring properly and what it symbolizes?

Since the ancient times the ring was worn by married women. It showed that they were no longer allowed to circulate among other men. It somehow makes you believe that the woman was considered to be the man’s possession. In some cases it might have meant that but not in most of them. The ring actually showed the strong connection between a man and a woman. Nowadays we can say that the ring symbolizes the woman’s possession of something valuable, as it is made of precious metal and gems.

In philosophical terms, the ring stands for its round shape, which is the, by far the most common and natural; fruits are round, birds’ nests are round, even them Earth is round. Our lives are influenced by many processes that, as a matter of fact, are related to circle and circulation. We do repetitive actions, the Earth goes round the sun and the moon goes round the Earth. It looks like our entire lives can be described by circles.

The circle is also linked to timelessness; it is a symbol of eternity and therefore it was correlated to weddings. When two people get married, they are supposed to stay together for their entire lives. Though this doesn’t happen in all the cases, we can at least dream of a “happily ever after”. The religious meaning of the wedding is tightening a relation between a man and a woman in front of God, as they become one. This unification couldn’t have been better represented by anything else but the ring.

As we can all notice, rings are circles. In magic, circles have a very strong meaning. It was believed that a person with a ring around his heart is protected for sure against evil forces. But because it was impossible to have one around your heart, people came out with a practical method of protection. They put a ring on the third finger, which had, as they believed, a vein connected directly to the heart. Because the left hand was a bit more close to the heart, they chose to put the ring on it.

Reading these stories now can make us laugh, that of course, if you are not a superstitious person. Though many people neglect the superstitious aspect of the wedding rings, many wear them as a symbol of their love or simply because it became a tradition. No matter what their reasons are, rings will still find their place on the hands of married people.
