Devotional On Wedding Rings

The word "devotional" means, according to Webster's dictionary, something "related to worship". The root of the word is "devotion" which means feeling of ardent love, willingness to serve God and combining these two meanings we reach to a religious connotation that tends to the interpreted as "the feeling of ardent love in worshiping God".

The history of devotional movements has the beginnings in the ancient times when people worshipped their deities, and the devotees of these Gods often have twined practices and habits that lasted in time under different shapes. Worshipping God took different ways of manifestations starting from rock-cut temples and reaching the art of engraving in objects to wear such as jewels, belts, helmets and so on.

These special rings mirror the bliss of marriage into a holy communion of God with earthly love. Wedding couples have the express desire to be convinced that their union bears the mark of divine blessing and because of this they prefer to wear wedding rings that prove it.

Some may say that wearing religious symbols engraved in jewels doesn't necessary prove a strong possession of a religious belief, but when this symbol appears on wedding rings this must reflect the bearer's belief in the power of God that watch over the marriage. Otherwise it would be a real waste...

There are also other symbols that refer to the devotional, symbols that don't necessary represents crosses or engravings of Jesus name, but also symbols that bear within devotional connotation. For instance, the symbol of fish, otherwise known as Ichthus, that comes from the times of the early Christianity. The meeting of two Christians was marked by a draw of a fish, thus being able to recognize themselves.

The devotional symbols that wedding rings have show the love that governs the married couple and at the same time the commitment towards the institution of marriage bearing the blessing of our worshipped God.
